Dear Colleagues and Friends,
we are delighted to invite you to the largest ever global gathering of the Huntington’s Disease community on May 18th in Vatican City. This humanitarian event, dubbed the HDdennomore initiative, will be the first ever papal audience with HD families. Pope Francis will meet people affected by HD arriving from South America and across the world as well as being joined by any colleagues, patients associations members, scientists, physicians, citizens, humanitarian organisations and friends that feel close to the disease. The moment marks the most significant chapter in the social history of Huntington's disease.
The event, which will be witnessed by several thousand people in the auditorium and in various manners online, is of immense significance to the Global HD Community - not just Catholics - but also potentially, mainstream media. The journey of HD families from isolated villages in South America (including Lake Maracaibo, where genetic information from those families led to the marker for the gene) to the Vatican, is a tale of just what can be done if enough people pull together and insist that nothing is impossible.
