Descrption : Neurobiological and molecular mechanisms in animal models of depression and mania We are looking for highly motivated candidates to join our team at the Pharmacology Unit in the Department of Neuroscience, University of Siena.

A position is available in a three-year Ph.D. program in Molecular Medicine with the following research project: Neurobiological and molecular mechanisms underpinning some validated animal models of depression and mania and the effects of antidepressant and mood stabilizer medicaments active on these models. The models are based on reproducible and long-lasting behavioral modifications induced by repeated environmental or pharmacological stimuli in rats, which mimic depressive and manic symptoms such as reduced/increased resilience to aversive or rewarding stimuli. Candidates with previous experience in any of the following methodological approaches will be preferred: - Animal models and behavioral testing; - In vivo microdialysis; - Molecular and histochemical methods.

The program offers a stimulating interdisciplinary research environment.
