EURACTIV has recently published an interview [LINK] with Tilly Metz (Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance) chair of the European Parliament’s Intergroup on the welfare and conservation of animals [LINK]. Metz calls for animal welfare to be “explicitly mentioned in the title of a Commissioner in the next legislative mandate to make it a priority of the next EU executive and avoid the risks of having more animal testing in Europe”. Metz also complained that animal models are still used in EU laboratories, although the EU Directive 2010/63 had the ambition of the total replacement of animal use in science.
