The European Commission has launched a new initiative as part of the revision process on Directive 2010/63/EU.
The major aim of this initiative is to modify animal welfare legislation concerning Annex III (on care and accommodation requirements) and Annex IV (on killing methods). The changes include standards for species currently used in biomedical research that are not covered by the annexes but fall within the scope of the Directive, and will mainly involve birds and fish.
