The US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has rejected a petition filed by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to list long-tailed and pig-tailed macaque monkeys under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The National Association for Biomedical Research (NABR), which has mobilized the scientific community against the attempt to list the macaques as endangered species [LINK], said in a statement that the “available scientific information clearly shows that this species is not at risk and does not warrant a further status review”.
