Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Organising Committee, under the aegis of the Governing Board of the Society, we are pleased to inform you that the next National Congress of the Italian Society for Neuroscience (SINS) will be held in Pisa, from September 10th to 13th, 2025.
We have secured the participation of worldwide leaders in the many disciplines represented in our Society, who will deliver the Presidential Lecture and the other Plenary Lectures (6 in all). As always, we count on contributions from the Society, in the form of symposium proposals and abstracts, to set up an exciting multidisciplinary scientific program that will dedicate particular attention to contributions by our younger colleagues. The program will include special interest lectures, events, satellite sessions, poster sessions, and networking opportunities, with ample space for sharing scientific material and visiting our Sponsors’ booths.
The Congress will be hosted in the historic center of Pisa, a wonderful and dynamic city with an outstanding heritage and many attractions within walking distance, including perfect places to meet with friends and colleagues.
We are excited to bring the community and celebrate neuroscience in Pisa.

Call for Symposia
We are pleased to announce that the call for Symposia for the SINS National Congress in Pisa is now open!
Symposia have consistently played a pivotal role in the success of the Society’s Congress and submissions are strongly encouraged as they contribute to shaping the scientific program of this significant event.
SYMPOSIUM STRUCTURE AND GUIDELINES
Symposium Duration:
• Each Symposium will last 90 minutes, featuring four presentations of 18 minutes each, followed by 4-minute Q&A session.
Speaker Requirements:
• At least one of the Speakers must be a young researcher (under 40 year old);
• The four Speakers must be affiliated with different institutions.
Symposium Proposal:
• Each Symposium may be proposed by one or two Chairs, preferably SINS members;
• Only one of the Chairs is allowed to also serve as a Speaker;
• If only one Chair is indicated, the Scientific Committee will assign a second Chair.
Limitations for Chairs/Speakers:
• Each Chair/Speaker may propose or participate in only one Symposium proposal;
• Chairs of Symposia from the last SINS Congress in Torino (2023) are not eligible to submit proposals.
Symposia Reserved for Young Researchers:
• At least two Symposium slots will be reserved for proposals in which all participants, including Chairs and Speakers, are under 40 years of age as of the submission deadline.
PROPOSAL SUBMISSION
Symposium proposals should address one of the following topics:
• Cognition and Behavior
• Development
• Disorders of the Nervous System
• Excitability, Synaptic Transmission, Network Functions
• Novel Methods and Technology Development
• Sensory and Motor Systems
• Sleep, Autonomic and Neuroendocrine Systems
Each proposal must include the following information:
• Title: A concise description of the Symposium topic (less than 10 words);
• Summary: A brief overview of the scientific background and relevance of the topic (up to 100 words), along with a list of 5 representative publications of the Speakers on the topic;
• Speakers’ details: Full name, e-mail and affiliation of the 4 Speakers and the titles of their presentations.
EVALUATION
Proposals will be evaluated by the SINS Scientific Committee, including members of the SINS Governing Board and the Local Organizing Committee.
Evaluation will be based on:
• Scientific relevance of the proposed topics, consistent with the broadest possible representation of the Symposium themes;
• Expertise of the proposed Chairs and Speakers;
• Coherence and complementarity of topics covered within the Symposium.
Additional considerations include:
• Ensuring a balanced representation of different neuroscience fields;
• Promoting gender diversity among participants;
• Inclusion of multiple young researchers (under 40 years old);
• Prioritizing Speakers who did not present at Symposia in the last SINS Congress.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Symposium proposals must be submitted strictly according to the Instructions for Proposers, using the Congress Management Platform.
The Symposium proposal submission deadline is January 12, 2025 at 11:59 PM (CET).
Acceptance of proposals will be announced by February 14, 2025.
IMPORTANT NOTES FOR CHAIRS AND SPEAKERS
• No expense reimbursement will be provided for Chairs and Speakers;
• Participation in the Congress requires the payment of the registration fee;
• The Local Organizing Committee and the SINS Governing Board are committed to supporting funding requests from third-party entities by providing necessary letters of support.
