In recent weeks, a heated political debate has unfolded in Italy over the implementation challenges and structural shortcomings of the newly introduced Contratto di Ricerca (CDR). One of the main concerns is the limited accessibility of these positions for recent graduates and early-career researchers, including recent PhD graduates. This is an issue that has also seen active engagement from young SINS members.

In this context, many voices from the academic and research communities, including universities, research institutions, individual researchers and the Accademia dei Lincei, have emphasized the need to develop additional instruments alongside the CDR in order to ensure continuity of training and career development opportunities for young scientists.

As a result, a group of researchers has drafted an open letter addressed to the main political promoters of the CDR and national decision-makers, reflecting on the outcomes of the political discussion and calling for broader, more inclusive support measures. The letter has been published on Scienza in Rete and is open for public endorsement.
